Bank Jobs After Graduation: PO, Clerk, Relationship Manager and Private Sector Roles
By JobKarle Editorial Team · Published · 2 min read
The main routes into banking after graduation: government exams, private bank roles and BPO-style banking operations, with a simple plan for each.
The short version
There are three broad routes into a bank: competitive exams for public sector banks, direct hiring by private banks, and operations roles in banking service centres. Each suits a different type of candidate.
Route 1: public sector bank exams
Public sector banks recruit through national or bank-specific exams for probationary officer (PO) and clerk posts, run by bodies such as IBPS and SBI. The process generally includes preliminary and main exams and an interview or other stage. Eligibility, age limits, syllabus and dates change, so always read the latest official notification.
- Read the official notification and note eligibility, stages and dates.
- Understand the exam pattern: quantitative aptitude, reasoning, English and banking awareness.
- Make a study plan with weekly mock tests.
- Revise current affairs and banking basics.
- Prepare for the interview with a clear idea of why you want a banking career.
Route 2: private bank and NBFC roles
- Relationship manager or sales officer: acquires customers and sells banking and loan products
- Branch operations executive: handles accounts, cash and service requests
- Customer service executive: supports customers by phone, chat or email
- Credit and loan officer: processes loan applications
Route 3: banking operations and service centres
Many banks outsource work such as KYC, account opening, loan processing and reconciliation to service centres and BPOs. These roles are open to graduates and freshers, and give strong experience to move into core banking later.
Skills banks look for
- Good maths and reasoning for exam routes
- Clear communication and customer handling
- Accuracy and honesty
- Sales and target orientation for relationship roles
- Basic computer and Excel skills
Which route fits you?
- If you like structured study and long-term stability, prepare for the exams.
- If you like sales and meeting people, look at private bank relationship roles.
- If you want to start working soon, apply to banking operations and KYC roles while you decide.
