Full Stack Developer Jobs: Skills, Stacks and How to Get Hired
By JobKarle Editorial Team · Published · 2 min read
What full stack really means, which stack to choose, how to learn it without burning out, and how to prove you can build complete applications.

The short version
A full stack developer can build both the visible side of an application and the logic and data behind it. Companies like them because one person can take a feature from idea to launch. The key is depth in one stack, not shallow knowledge of everything.
Popular stacks in job descriptions
- JavaScript or TypeScript: React on the front end, Node.js on the back end
- Java: Spring Boot back end with a React or Angular front end
- Python: Django or FastAPI back end with a JavaScript front end
- .NET: C# back end with a JavaScript front end
What you need to know
- Front end: HTML, CSS, JavaScript and one framework
- Back end: one language and framework, REST APIs, authentication
- Databases: SQL and the basics of NoSQL
- Git, deployment, environment variables and logging
- Basic security: input validation, password handling, common attacks
- Testing: unit tests and a few integration tests
How to learn it without overwhelm
- Pick one stack. Do not mix three at once.
- Learn the front end first, then the back end.
- Build one project that has login, a database, create-read-update-delete features and a clean interface.
- Deploy it online and add a clear README.
- Build a second project that adds something new, such as file uploads, payments in test mode or search.
- Study how the pieces talk to each other: browser, API, database.
Project ideas that impress
- Job board with employer and candidate roles
- Booking system for a clinic or salon
- Inventory tracker with reports
- Online quiz platform with scores
Interview focus
Expect questions on both sides: JavaScript and framework basics, REST design, database queries, authentication and how you would structure a small application. Be ready to draw the architecture of your own project.
