How to Get an AR Caller Job as a Fresher: Eligibility, Hiring Process and Interview Questions
By JobKarle Editorial Team · Published · 4 min read
A step-by-step plan to apply for AR caller and healthcare BPO jobs: who is eligible, what to learn first, the hiring rounds and sample interview questions.
Who can apply?
Many AR caller and healthcare BPO roles are open to graduates, and some accept freshers from any stream. Companies often prefer candidates who communicate well in English and can work US night shifts. A background in commerce, life sciences, pharmacy, nursing or similar can help, but it is not always required. Read each job description for the exact eligibility.
Step-by-step plan
- Understand the work. Read our guides on the healthcare BPO process and the AR caller role so you know what the job involves.
- Learn the basic terms. Study payer, provider, claim, copay, deductible, coinsurance, EOB, denial and appeal using our glossary.
- Improve your spoken English. Practise speaking aloud every day, record yourself, and work on a steady pace and clear pronunciation.
- Build basic computer skills. Be comfortable with typing, Excel and switching between several windows.
- Prepare a one-page resume that lists your education, communication skills and computer skills. If you have taken a medical billing course, include it.
- Search for AR caller, AR follow-up, medical billing and healthcare process jobs on JobKarle, and check the shift, location and eligibility.
- Apply to several relevant roles and keep your phone available for recruiter calls.
- Prepare for each round described below, attend the interviews, and review the offer carefully.
Typical hiring rounds
The process varies by company, but most include some of these.
- HR round: availability, shift comfort, salary expectation and basic communication
- Spoken English assessment, often Versant or a company voice test
- Aptitude or written test: English, reasoning and basic maths
- Typing test or computer test for some roles
- Operations interview: process understanding, situation questions and role-play
- Document verification after selection
Common interview questions
- Tell me about yourself
- Why do you want to work in a healthcare BPO?
- Are you comfortable with US night shifts?
- What do you know about the US healthcare system and medical billing?
- What is the difference between a payer and a provider?
- What is a claim denial, and what would you do about one?
- How would you handle a payer representative who does not give clear answers?
- How do you stay accurate when you do repetitive work?
How to answer: what is a claim denial?
A good answer is short and clear: A denial means the insurance company has refused to pay a claim, fully or partly. It can be because of eligibility, missing information, no prior authorization, a coding error or a missed deadline. The next step is to find the reason, correct the problem if possible, and then resubmit or appeal. This shows that you understand both the term and the process.
Role-play tips
- Greet politely and state your purpose clearly, such as calling about the status of a claim.
- Speak slowly and spell names and numbers carefully.
- Ask specific questions about status, denial reason, allowed amount and next steps.
- Repeat important details back to confirm them.
- Stay calm and polite even if the other person is unhelpful.
- Close by summarising what you learned and the next action.
Training and shifts
Most companies give training before you start live work. It may cover the revenue cycle, medical terms, payer rules, tools and phone skills. Many AR roles follow US hours, so expect night or rotational shifts. Ask about cab facilities, weekly offs, training pay and the notice period before you accept.
Avoid fake offers
Healthcare BPOs are sometimes imitated by scammers who charge for training, ID cards or placement. Genuine employers do not charge for interviews, training or joining. Verify the company and recruiter first, and read our fake job offer guide before paying or sharing documents.
